David Costello

David Costello is a principal and co-founder of the Ardila Costello Team (ACT) and oversees one of the largest, fastest growing and most successful residential real estate teams at Compass in the San Francisco Bay Area.

With over 40 years of executive, marketing and sales experience, David has an unparalleled understanding of the city’s diverse neighborhoods. A 4th generation San Francisco native, David graduated from St. Ignatius College Preparatory (Class of 1974), after which he attended Pepperdine University in Malibu CA. Having a passion for travel, in his senior year he enrolled in Pepperdine’s Study Abroad program in Heidelberg, Germany, where later graduated earning a BA in Psychology.

Upon returning from Germany, David joined his family’s well established insurance business, Costello & Sons Insurance Brokers, where he focused on providing personal insurance to HNW individuals and Family Offices,

In 1997 David joined NorthStar Risk Management & Insurance Services in Walnut Creek CA serving as President of the brokerage. During his 14-year tenure David co-founded the Sterling Programme for High Valued Homes which included comprehensive earthquake coverage as well as $1 billion in policy issuance capacity. The success of the Lloyd’s home insurance program later caught the attention of AIG Private Client Group who entered the HNW home insurance space - resulting in David transitioning his extensive book of business over to AIG and later serving on AIG’s Advisory Board in New York, as well representing AIG as Brand Ambassador in Monaco, Italy, and the Napa Valley,

Always having a passion for real estate, in 2012 David joined Sotheby’s International Realty, working tandem in the insurance and real estate spaces.

In 2015 David later transitioned to Golden Gate Sotheby’s, where he focused on high-end residential real estate in both Marin County as well as the Napa Valley.

In the fall of 2021 David was recruited by Compass in San Francisco, along with his now business partner Andy Ardila, who together founded the Ardila Costello Team (ACT) at Compass, with a primary focus on luxury homes and estates throughout the Bay Area.

The ACT team quickly grew to include 14 seasoned agents. Since the team’s founding ACT has generated a sales volume exceeding $250 million, ranking #5 team at Compass’s San Francisco Beach Street’s flagship office.

ACT’s recent successes include representing Union House, a 41-luxury condo development in Pacific Heights, a 144 unit residential development in Watsonville CA, branded residences in Mexico, Costa Rica & Hawaii, opening a Private Island Division of Compass in Palo Alto, and assisting in the sales and marketing efforts of Njord Ocean Residences, an ultra-luxury 117 unit condo yacht currently under construction.

David attributes his sales success to being passionate, competitive, and goal oriented - as well as exceeding his client’s expectations.

Recreationally David enjoys spending time with friends in the Napa Valley, gourmet dining, and traveling internationally.
